For a recovering Cancer Patient, a TOTAL BODY BONE SCAN is just one of the many, annual tests you will have to undergo in order for you & your doctor to closely monitor your health stat. Lucky for us, they don't cost as much as CT Scans, but they do still reach the 5-digit marker...
So, here's MY list of the TOP 5 AFFORDABLE PLACES TO GO TO & THEIR CORRESPONDING PRICES for TBBS [1st price stated is the regular price; 2nd one's for PWDs & Senior Citizens :)].
- Capitol Medical [Mon-Fri, AM-PM / Sat, 8AM-11AM] 4,305php / PWD: 3,444php
- Philippine General Hospital [Mon-Fri, 7AM-4PM] 4,025php / PWD: n/a :(
- Manila Doctor's Hospital [] 4,818php / PWD: 4266.40php
- UST Hospital [Mon-Fri, 7AM-4PM / Sat, 7AM-12NN] 5,445php / PWD: 4,864php
- St. Luke's Medical Center [] / PWD: 5,800php
- *No blood work &/or fasting required for TBBS [unlike w/ CT Scans].
- **There should be no other medical procedures done 24 hours prior to scanning.
- ***Details as of August 2013; may change w/o prior notice. Please call first to confirm.
- ****By appointment; some require personal appearance, others OK through phone requests.
- *****10-20% special discounts're only given to patients w/either PWD or Senior Citizen's ID's.
******Actual scanning only usually takes about 30 to 45 minutes; 1 hour at the most. However, you'll have to be injected w/ Liquid Radiation 3 hours prior to the actual scanning [kinda like the CT Scan CONTRAST version for TBBS]. This will allow the solution enough time to go through your entire body [so, be sure to keep a safe distance away from babies, pregnant women & children for a few hours / also flush 2-3 times when using the bathroom].- *******Again, I've called over 4 dozen hospitals & diagnostics centers w/in Metro Manila in a span of almost an entire month [alongside my search for cheapest CT Scan rates]! Believe me, these rates are the lowest I've seen on the internet! But please, feel free to do your own research if you wish. Who knows, perhaps you'll get lucky & find something cheaper ;-)!
- [Last year, I was lucky enough to have my TBBS done at Jose R. Reyes Memorial Medical Center {it is quite far though... thank goodness for trains :D!}. It only costed me 2,500php! Unfortunately, their TBBS scanning machine keeps breaking down. I was told, however, that a replacement unit might come in before the end of this year. So, if you're not in a hurry {or if you happen to be reading this blog from around December of 2013 onwards}, then you can try calling J.R.R.M.M.C & check if they already have a new & improved TBBS unit ^_^!]
